Skin Needling & the Dermapen: Everything you need to know

Posted on

What is Skin Needling?

Skin Needling is a process in which micro-damage is performed on the skin to induce the growth of collagen. Skin Needling is often executed with a dermal roller, which creates the micro incisions. As the cells regenerate to essentially 'heal' the incisions, collagen and elastin are developed, speeding up the skin renewal process, resulting in rejuvenated skin. Benefits of this treatment include visibly improved fine lines, wrinkles, acne, scarring, pigmentation and more plump, supple and smoother skin.

The Dermapen 3 versus traditional Dermal Rollers

So, what is the difference between regular Skin Needling Rollers, versus the Dermapen 3? Traditional Dermal Rollers puncture the skin in slanted angles. The rolling action of the device causes the needles to enter and leave at an angle, resulting in a painful experience and lateral epidermal tears. The mechanics of the needle, and angled application of the needles, create a much more painful treatment with longer recovery time. To minimise any pain numbing cream will often be applied prior to the treatment.

In contrast, the Dermapen 3 has a much smaller needle tip that vibrates and oscillates, enabling precision in hard to reach places (for instance the nose, eyes and mouth), as well as puncturing the skin at a 90 degree angle, eliminating the pain and epidermal tearing that occurs with Dermal Rollers. This revolutionary design eliminates the need for any numbing cream as the treatment is more seamless and comfortable.

Additionally, unlike traditional Dermal Rollers, the Dermapen 3 allows for adjustable puncture depth to tailor the treatment to an individuals needs.

How many treatments will I need to see results? As each client has different skin types & concerns to address, there is no straight up answer. Your dermal therapist will conduct a skin consultation pre treatment, and post treatment will able to determine how many sessions an individual will need to see results. However, our clientele typically see results after their first treatment.

Which treatments can I book in for that include the Dermapen 3? You can book in for the Skin Rejuvenation Therapy, the Express Collagen Induction Facial 30min or the Deluxe Collagen Rejuvenation Facial 60min.
